Happy Friday!

I am so glad it's Friday.  Don't you just love the weekend?

God is blessing us with 60 degree weather all weekend. Time for hoodies and hot caramel apple cider from Starbucks and of course, football!!  The Vols are back to playing and I am trying to decide the menu for game day.

Yesterday we took mom shopping and she enjoyed looking at the Christmas merchandise and I even bought her some new Christmas towels. :-)  I am not ready for Christmas yet but I did have fun looking at all the decorations. Have I mentioned I love to decorate? *smile*

God has different blessings for all of us in each season.  I am thankful for cool fall days and for pumpkins to decorate with and pumpkin pie to eat,  getting away to the mountains, picnics during the fall season.  The fall leaves are just gorgeous this year.

Do you realize tomorrow is October 1st?!  October snuck up on me. My oldest has a birthday in October. I cannot believe I will have a son who will be 23!  Another blessing I am thankful for, my sons!

Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!!

Saturday Morning Thoughts

It's all quiet in my house. This day, I get a few more alone time hours while everyone else enjoys sleeping in. This is a good thing. :)

I am enjoying a nice cup of hot coffee with peppermint mocha creamer.  It's odd that I found the peppermint mocha at the grocery store but I couldn't find any of the Fall flavors. This flavor reminds me of Christmas(decided to drink out of my Christmas mug)  and that my friends is a few short 91 days away. eek!  We will talk about that another day.

However, come October, I start listening to Christmas music. Don't judge. *grin*

My beloved Vols have the weekend off, so no game for me.  I will still wear my game day clothes and I am trying to decide if I want to take the fam to Cracker Barrel or just head on to the big city and shop at Target. Retail therapy is so much nicer and then perhaps mexican for lunch. Options, they make me nuts. lol

Seriously, this family of mine, we are the worst at trying to decide where we want to go eat.  I will let you have a glimpse of a typical Sunday morning,  I go to each one and tell them I am not cooking and we are going to eat after church. I then proceed to tell them to think about where they would like to go and they are to make their decision as soon as we step out of the church. :-)  Yeah, that doesn't work.  The funny thing is that I am usually the one that makes that decision.  Again, options they are my enemy, unless it's packing for a trip, in which case I need plenty of clothes & shoe options.

I am just glad that this Sunday is Homecoming Sunday and I know where we are eating tomorrow.

A few of my friends are at a women's conference called dotMom by Lifeway. They are having a blast and this is for all moms, no matter what stage you are in with your children. Go HERE if you would like more info.

This would have been so helpful back in my years of raising two boys. We moms need encouragement and help and a weekend away with other moms.  It's not easy being a mom, and it is really difficult to be a single mom but with God's help, we can.  I love being a mom. Even now that my two are 21 and 23.

My best advice for young moms:

1. Pray over your children. All the time. Pray everything.  I even prayed for their future wives  when they were small boys and their future  children.  It's important to cover them in prayer daily.

2. Enjoy each moment. It's okay to skip cleaning the house to play with our children.  I can promise you this, time does fly by so quickly and before you know it, your children will be adults.

3. Pray with them.  It is important for them to see you praying and spending time in God's Word but it is also important to spend time with them praying and studying God's Word.

My bff and her family have started eating breakfast together each morning and praying together before their busy day begins. I love that, and they also designate Friday as family fun day.  They have the best time together. She has 3 girls.  Little things like that matters.

Completely changing subjects,  yesterday was the first day of Fall and I decided to make my son Jason his favorite thing to eat during Fall, chicken and dumplins'  That is what we call it in the South.  They were so good and the weather was cool and that made it even more perfect. :-)

In my stage of life,  I don't cook like I used to but when I do, I try to make it good.

Okay, I think that is enough of my thoughts for a Saturday morning.  Time to get ready for the day and at 11:30 on the Food network, Pioneer Woman's show comes on. It's the first time that I can watch her show without flipping back and forth between her show and College Game Day on ESPN.  I am pretty sure she would understand. ;)   Are you watching her show?   I love her.

Have a fun weekend. Do something Fall-ish.

Welcome Fall

I don't know about you but I am glad to say goodbye to summer.  Only because it was a bagillion degrees each day but it's time to welcome fall and as I have said many times, my favorite time of the year.

Tonight, my son Jason and I were the only ones at home and I cooked dinner for the two of us.  I decided to light my sweet cinnamon candle while we ate dinner. It smells so good.

Look what one of my Bff's bought me :

I know it's supposed to go outside but it is too cute to go outside and I am keeping in my living room. :-)

Wal Mart had this out today just in time for Fall:

Pumpkin Spice cookies. These are so good. The chocolate chip cookie mix is so good. They taste as good as homemade.

Happy Fall and Happy Friday!  Enjoy your weekend!

Where 2-0 became 2-1

Well, I would have loved writing a post where I could finally say after 6 years that we beat the Gators; however  that was not to be and on top of that we lost our best running back but I don't think he will be out for too long .
No matter what, it is always great to be a Tennessee Vol!!  Happy that we have an off week coming up.

Since my birthday post it has gone down hill.  As we were going to eat out on my birthday, I began getting sick. Sore throat and basically the crud.  I didn't feel like going anywhere and had no energy to go out even if I wanted to.  I still haven't been out to mail Teresa her gifts.  That will be done this week.

Then, our father had to have surgery for an aneurysm in his stomach or as they  call it AAA.  So many people prayed for him and our family and I can tell you I had a complete peace and calm. This surgery is so risky but God allowed dad to have the less invasive surgery and for that we were thankful.  There were a few complications after surgery but God saw him through each one and he came home today.

It wasn't the weekend we all would have liked but God showed us His faithfulness and glory!!

On another note, it was cool enough today that I was able to make a pot of chili!! That makes me happy.

I hope your weekend has been relaxing and fun!

Book Review and a Giveaway

About the bookLt. Raymond Novak prefers the pulpit to the cockpit, but at least his stateside job training B-17 pilots allows him the luxury of a personal life. As he courts Helen Carlisle, a young war widow and mother who conceals her pain under a frenzy of volunteer work, the sparks of their romance set a fire that flings them both into peril. After Ray leaves to fly a combat mission at the peak of the air war over Europe, Helen takes a job in a dangerous munitions yard and confronts an even graver menace in her own home. Will they find the courage to face their challenges? And can their young love survive until blue skies return?
Filled with daring and romance, Blue Skies Tomorrow will capture readers' hearts.

My Review:  I loved this book. This is my first time to read Sarah's books and this story was well written and immediately captures your attention.  This book hit close to home for me because I had a close friend who married a Navy man and she  endured a lot of what Helen, in the book, endured and it was hard to read but  Sarah writes it beautifully and as you follow Helen's life, you know that she will be healed and restored from her difficult past.  My friend was also healed and restored from her abusive past and to me this book is just full of hope, which is what God offers each of us in real life.  I highly recommend this book!

Labor Day Weekend

Well, it's the big getaway day for a lot of people with the long weekend ahead of us; but we are staying home.

Of course, we have football Saturday and we have friends coming over to watch the game and we are going to grill out.  I am having to buy the game because the football powers that be decided we fans should pay even more money and because I do not want to miss our season opener, I am willing to pay to watch them. I think in turn, they should win for me. :-)

I went to the Dollar Store this morning, they have Eckridge Grillers(hot dogs w/cheese inside) and they are so so good.  My son was teasing me and told me he knew that even though I went for hot dogs, I would come back with some kind of Fall decoration.  My words: "No, not this time, I have plenty of Fall decorations."

He was right.  Do you blame me?  He is so cute and the basket Mr. Scarecrow is holding says, Pumpkin Patch.  They had a mixed bag of M&Ms and that is what I put in the basket. Go ahead, help yourself.

As I have done in years past,  I post our Saturday Menus.

Because it will be near 100 tomorrow, I decided on this menu:

Saturday (Football Party) Menu
Hamburgers & Hot Dogs
Baked Beans
Potato Salad
Chips
Homemade Chocolate chip cookies
Reese Peanut Butter Cake(my friend is making)
Various sodas and sweet tea

Whatever your plans are, I hope you have a fun weekend!

If you haven't already, don't forget to enter my giveaway and the winner will be announced next Wednesday.

Happy Labor Day!
